Sulidae is the musical project of singer, songwriter and poet Bobby Motherwell, whose distinctive blend of song, poetry and spoken word explores the natural world, love, loss and a spirituality deeply rooted in nature.
The Unreliable Narrator is Sulidae’s third album and the final piece in a trilogy that began with the critically acclaimed Kitchen Sink Dharma and continued with ...an invincible summer. Produced by Garry Boyle at Slate Room Studio in Pencaitland, the album brings together an exceptional cast of Scottish musicians: Lyle Watt, Andy Lucas, Kirsten Adamson, Fraser Speirs, James Grant, Louis Abbott, Duncan Lyall, Nev Clay, Deke McGee, Jamie McGrory, Seonaid Aitken and Alan McGinley.
The first single, Ailsa Craig (via Cuddy’s Cave), has already received enthusiastic acclaim, with Iain Anderson describing it as “a terrific piece of work…a Tour de Force”.
The album will be released as a specially conceived limited-edition book, bringing music into dialogue with visual art and poetry through collaborations with Glasgow School of Art alumni and some of Scotland’s finest poets.
Following a sold-out Sulidae album launch at The Glad Café in 2024, where Motherwell and his musicians delivered “a spellbinding set”, The Unreliable Narrator returns to the venue for its Celtic Connections launch in January — an evening of music, poetry, spoken word and storytelling.
